Default Reviews: Steamboat, Deer Valley and Telluride - UE Signature

I finally decided to post reviews of three of UE mountain homes. I am putting these in one thread although DC4MS could easily split if he wishes. Overall each met or exceeded our expectation although Steamboat could use some work on the house and improvements in its local host in my opinion.

Steamboat (signature, mountaineer property)

The home is in the Mountaineer development. It is claimed to be approximately 3,000 square feet but I would guess it is closer to 2,500. Unit is a 4 bedroom, 4.5 bath townhouse which is almost next door to the development’s shared pool and hot tubs which is convenient for the kids particularly. The property has only a one car garage but it has ample additional parking on the heated driveway. There is a nice porch in front. The development is served by a regularly circulating shuttle to the mountain in the morning and afternoon with on-call service in the middle of the day and in the evening. We found the shuttle service terrific and there was no need for a car when staying at the home. I do not think we ever waited even 5 minutes at the mountain base or the house for a ride. Rides downtown for dinner were almost as convenient.

The home has a good sized long but narrow entry foyer which connects the front door and the garage and has plenty of space for family members to put on and take off ski clothing. The foyer has nice stone surfaces although the adjoining living room has carpeting which is a bit more difficult to keep clean with skiers. Next to the living room is a small deck with a grill and a couple of chairs.

The living room has nice furniture and electronics although a flat screen television would be a improvement although it could be challenging with the fire place and amoire. The dining area easily sat 6 and you could fit 8. The kitchen also on this level was well stocked with excellent cooking equipment and spices, particularly given that the local host was also a private chef. The kitchen even had terrific glassware whether for wine, beer, or martinis.

Downstairs there were 2 bedrooms and the laundry room. One bedroom had a king bed while the other two twins. The rooms were good sized and each had its own bathroom although there was a draft from one of the bedroom's window. Upstairs was the master suite which is large and has a nice large loft which is suitable for relaxing, working (the wi-fi router is here), watching television, or as an additional sleeping area. There is also another large bedroom with a queen sized bed and bathroom.

We thought the property was perfect for sharing with another family or for a large family for skiing and I am sure it is fine in the summer as well (although the other steamboat home would be preferable in the summer since it was huge and spectacular but off had transportation challenges). There were televisions and dvd players in each room as well as radiant heat and thermostats as well as humidifiers. The home was not extravagant but quite comfortable for 8 people on a ski vacation and the best thing about the home was its location and shuttle service.

Deer Valley

The Signature home is approximately ¼ mile from the entrance to Deer Valley and is also on the bus route. There is no regular shuttle service but it took 2 minutes to drive to DV and less than 10 to get to Park City and we would recommend that option over the bus. The town house has a 2 car garage in front and seemed larger than its square footage. We did not regret that the home was not ski-in and ski-house since it was so convenient to the mountains although UE has three Elite ski in and ski out homes which are more spectacular (and pricier in this big dollar location) and adjacent to the mid mountain base.

We usually entered the home from the garage which is on the lower level which has a small area for changing out of ski clothing before climbing steps to the main level. The home has nice stone on the main level which we preferred over the carpeting at the Steamboat home. This home was beautifully decorated and had a world class local host. Everything was organized from keys, to internet connections at a desk, to recommendations from prior guests, sun tan/block lotion, spare batteries, and even places to put the house keys. There is a dining room which seats 6 and a extremely comfortable living room with leather sofa and chairs on the main level as well as fireplace and nice television and electronics including a harmony remote. There is a large deck with views of Deer Valley and a nice barbeque and also a gas outdoor fireplace perfect for making s’mores. The kitchen was well designed, had nice appliances, and had plenty of room for the family.

The local host had provided a terrific spread of fruit, cheese, and some wonderful bread and dips when we arrived along with spiced cider with some rum to accompany such. This put us in a perfect mood for a grand vacation.

There was one smaller bedroom with a trundle bed on the main floor which also had a 35” television and dvd player as well as a large bathroom. There is also a ½ bathroom on this level for guests.

Upstairs there are three additional bedrooms, 2 of which could be master bedrooms with king beds (one with a fireplace and the other with a deck and large hot tub). The bathrooms were quite nice as well. The third bedroom had 2 twin beds convertible to a king and of course a fourth full bathroom. We thoroughly enjoyed this spectacular comfortable home.

Teluride

We stayed in cabin 4 which is one of three Signature residences all in the Mountain Village area. The home has parking a few steps above the residence and beside cabin 8 which is also a UE home. The home is in the Mountain Lodge development and you have access to their pool, hot tub, fitness center, morning coffee and newspapers, etc. The cabins are at the end of the driveway for the development so they have excellent privacy. Each house has an electronic key setup which is preferable to us than carrying keys.

The highlight of this home is the “amazing” view as my son described it. After walking through the foyer you enter the living area which is framed with floor to 2 story ceiling windows overlooking the san juan mountain range. There is a large deck with 2 chairs and a wolfe grill that allow you to get even closer to this outstanding view and you notice that there is a stream that runs right below the property.

The living room has a terrific big screen flat panel television, vcr, ipod music center, and the wonderful harmony remote. There is also a nice fireplace with a terrific stone mantle.

The kitchen is well laid out although compact with stainless steel appliances including a sub zero refrigerator freezer.. There is a long dining table with a bench and chairs to easily seat 8.

Also on this level is one bedroom with a bathroom next door. The bed was a king bed but I suspect it could also be converted to 2 twins as there were two bed frames. This bedroom does not have much of a view as it is close to the cabin next door.

Downstairs there are two large bedrooms, each with two twin beds in each room, which can be converted to king beds. There was a shared large bathroom for the two bedrooms. Each bedroom had nice views of the trees and mountains. There is also a nice Duet washer/dryer in the hallway downstairs.

Above the main living area is the master suite. There is a large walk in closet, king bed, the same terrific views as when you walk in the home (the master bedroom is loft-like and is separated from the main level by large glass windows). There is a nice shower, whirlpool tub, and sinks with a luxury feeling upstairs.

The home has radiant heat but no air conditioning but ample windows to let in the cool summer breezes. The lack of air conditioning was not an issue as at 9,700 feet of elevation, it rarely gets above 80 degrees in the summer and falls to the 40s at night. This home was terrific in one of the most beautiful locations we have ever visited in the mountains.
