One Key - new prices September 2008

Here is an e-mail I received from OneKey

Dear DC4MS,

I wanted to offer you this limited opportunity to take advantage of a One Key membership prior to a change in pricing. One Key is an elite travel club providing members access to private vacation homes and customized services using a debit-card (similar to a Starbucks or Jet Card) that offers the ultimate in flexibility and choice. The change is being made in direct response to recent member feedback, and will provide future One Key members with access to a wider range of homes (including larger 6+ bedroom homes for friends and family vacations), as well as greater flexibility in how nights may be utilized. Therefore, effective August 31st 2008 pricing will increase to:

One Key Nights New Pricing: Effective 8/31/2008
15 One Key Nights $39,900
25 One Key Nights $59,900
45 One Key Nights $99,900

As a result of the expanded portfolio, One Key has moved to a points-based system, where each home has an associated value specifically tailored to the attributes of that home. “This change will allow One Key members to manage their nights more efficiently, and further customize their vacation experiences,” says Jay Sapovits, Founder and Chief Executive Officer. “Now the annual family winter trip to a highly coveted destination like Cabo San Lucas for a week may cost ten One Key Nights, while a four-night getaway to New York City for a couple during the fall may only cost three One Key Nights.”Currently, members can select from 30 destinations and over 450 homes. One Key plans to enter ten additional destinations through 2008, with near-term additions to include Pebble Beach CA, Sonoma County CA, and Kiawah SC. One Key Nights do not expire and there are no initiation fees or additional deposits.

i personally dont call this a point based system. its the same thing DHH does.

the articles include examples ranging from .75 > 2.7 (cost per night)

old per night
15 $34,900 ($2,327)
25 $49,900 ($1,996)
45 $84,900 ($1,887)

new per night
15 $39,900 ($2,660) [+$333] / .75 = ($1,995) / 2.7 = ($7,182)

Almost 2.75x in at least one instance, per the Halogen Guide article...

In some areas, the largest home at the peak season may require more than two membership nights for every night’s stay. For example, a seven-night stay at one of the club’s portfolio of two- to six-bedroom homes in Maui will require anywhere from six to 19 One Key nights.

The price increase has raised the unit price however it will also have an effect on how many One Key Nights a member will be charged for their home. If under the old fees a 3 bedroom in Beaver Creek in season cost 7 One Key Nights for a week of travel. The same home may only Cost 6 One Key Nights for the same week.

No however when we speak with members and prospective members we can go over ranges. As an example under our new pricing our 29 home options in Beaver Creek will range from 6-14 One Key Nights for a week of vacation. Our portfolio includes 3-7 bedroom options as well as Village and Ski-in Ski-out. When we are working with a member who is booking a trip we present them with several options and let them decide which home is best for them.
