Default HCC Outer Banks home

The Outer Banks house is set up quite nice for a large gathering. Outdoor pool with enough space around it for lounging , then two sides have an outdoor porch overlooking the pool if you want shade. Adjacent to the pool is and outdoor kitchen/bar area. A bathroom is next to the pool, and there is an outdoor shower. Above this area is a large gameroom overlooking the pool.
There is a Large bedroom over the top of the garage----about 26ft by 28ft, it includes a living room, kitchen and bar area, enough room for several car loads of teenagers to crash. Besides the 5 bedrooms, there is ample room in the sunroom(first floor), sitting area on the second floor, and gameroom on the second floor. Its looks quite nice for a reunion, enough room to spread out, outdoor area is great.

New pictures will be taken at the end of the month, usually just before the first week of occupancy.

I hope they have occupancy limits. I would hate for the placed to get trashed by "several car loads of teenagers"

MJS says there is a game room, could that mean pool table? Also, the Currituck Club has a game room at the clubhouse. I have never been to this area but sounds nice.

It would be great if there was a pool table. We enterred the lottery for this property and received our second choice. We will be there during the last week in May.

We officially joined as an Affilliate this year, and also got our second choice, the last week of August. We're excited to see the first reviews and pictures as they become available! For us, HCC OB looks like an annual Summer trip for one week or another!

The High Country Club property should be a hit with the members. I'd suggest that they start looking at a smaller beach front home in OBX to supplement the use of this property. They might also consider the same strategy in Hilton Head Island.

This is a great East coast location. I would have visited this summer, but we got lucky with a HCC Big Island + HCC Maui property back-to-back and will be in Hawaii for 2 weeks.

Have you been? How is the beach? Is there much to do? Places to eat? It seems like a quiet family type of place.
I have been to Kiawah and I am not as crazy about it as some people are. I find the weather very humid, the sand dark, the beach water dark and shallow for way too far out. I am not a golfer but do play tennis (but not when it is 90% humidity). I know Kiawah is popular among many DC members and it appears to be popular with families with small children or golfing families. How do the Outer Banks compare?
It seems a little difficult to get to. Closest airport is Norfolk and then an 80 mile drive.

I live in Florida and no other place, except New Orleans (in the summer), is as humid as what I am used to.

I really enjoy all the Hawaiian islands and my wife really loves the Big Island (more than me) and that is one of the reasons we are going there. The kids are looking forward to the volcano as they have studied them in science class.

I visited the Outer Banks for a long weekend a few years ago and one week does seem like a long time. I really wanted to try hang gliding, but the wind was actually too strong and it rained.

You haven't been to the marsh of Kiawah in August. At least in Boca you've got some ocean breezes.

Humid? Wow, I've been to a few spots that were horrid (Ghana, Panama, El Salvador) but nothing is worse than New Orleans in August!! I'm sweating just thinking about it!!

Having been to the Outer Banks and Kiawah many times, I can tell you that each has its pros and cons. Kiawah is pretty hot and humid, particularly in July and if you're off the beach, but the season is longer there. March through October is great there, while the Outer Banks have a much shorter season. The Outer Banks are more remote location wise, and can be very hard to get to unless you live in eastern Virginia, DC, or the eastern NC area. If not, you're in for a long drive, and traffic can be brutal depending on the day and time you're coming and going. It is also intensely developed along certain stretches of beach, but then other areas have no development (particularly down South) and are incredibly beautiful. On the other hand, Kiawah is mostly developed in a low-impact, planned manner and is close to one of my favorite cities, Charleston. Overall, I like Kiawah a good bit more, but HCC has gotten a beautiful house that could not be had at Kiawah without paying twice as much. I think HCC members will really enjoy that house.

Good to hear some of the info above. I also tried to get a reservation there with the lottery but was not as lucky as some of you. Did anyone besides me NOT get a week? I tried for four different weeks and came up empty. Was a bit surprised by that since in the past have had luck as long as I gave a few options. Seems like from above people usually got their second choice -- anyone else with 4 strikes like me?
