I can definately see pwrshft here. Just like he wants, beachfront and a Senor Frogs (instead of Hooters) across the street. But I hope hope all those Canadians continue to not want to go.

Have no fear - it's all yours. With all the places in the world that are available to travel to Cancun isn't on the list. I trust you won't be traveling to the Tuscany properties since you'll be drinking heavily at Senor Froggies - seems like a fair trade to me - grazie

Seriously though - if you like Cancun then I truly do hope you have a wonderful time and enjoy the new property. I just hope that they do actually add a Caribbean property to the portfolio as they had represented to me. I am hopeful that they learn to say Anguilla as it is someplace I would really like to visit.

Anguilla is supposed to be beautiful but difficult to get to (at least two flights or flights and a boat, etc) For HCC price level, the cost of flights is a significant factor (Cancun is cheap to get to from the states) I would think maybe Aruba (though I have never been but direct flights are more common and more of a year round resort due to lack of hurricaines) or Turks (If it is still there after Ike) or Grand Cayman or perhaps St. Martin. ( there are some direct flight to St. Martin. An additional boat ride takes you to Angiulla)

Another option other than Turks which is heavily booked is what I was hoping for - where exactly is optional but an alternative warm destination for the winter months. Some islands can be a challenge to get to however booking more than a week at a time makes the travel days worthwhile.

You are correct on Anguilla - a direct flight with a cab to the ferry in Marigot or you book a private water taxi across to avoid the crowds on the ferry. There are limited flights into Anguilla from Puerto Rico as well as flights from SXM to Anguillla so you aren't stuck with a ferry or water taxi.

I've been to Aruba, St. Martin and own in Grand Cayman. There are direct flights to all of them as with many other Caribbean locations.

From the photos I derive that the condo is located in the Portofino towers, right next to the original Bay View Grand condos. The developer is the same company though (BVG) so the quality should be equal.

Location is great because it is in the middle of the luxury hotel zone with very convenient access to great restaurants and entertainment (Senor Frogs would be at the very bottom of the list, though

I'll bet HCC doesn't have 10% of their members from Canada (37.5) as they should, so it and the Cancun crime bulletins shouldn't affect the lottery for you even if Canadians did risk going there.

I wouldn't be lining up on the Cancun lottery for this one either ... Frogs or not. But Bill does owe me lunch at Hooters in Ft. Laud next Feb! No doubt he noticed the hot tub in Cancun! Naples and Miami and Chicago would get me to sell some Canadian stock though -- if they are more than just HCC 'in development' hopefuls...and they do have entertainment close by too.

Although Cancun's another DC I wouldn't have to make beds ... just sleep around instead. I'm in a place right now that has maid service, turn down service with great chocolates, and private chefs that deliver right to my door. And the pooch is here too! A great family outing for a week, except for Hanna.

Didn't we see pics posted on the BBS of this Cancun location a few weeks back? Sure looks familiar ... one of you guys was on the ball for this one.

Did anyone notice a "hot tub" on the balcony?

I think you are right that this is the Portofino. But it would be in the first building next to the BVG because you can see the BVG out of the window of the dining room. The terrace is a square corner and all the BVG corner terraces are round so it must be the Portofino. I haven't seen them but I am sure it is nice. I just liked the design and openess of the BVG versus the Portofino.

Yep. I can tell by simply looking at the photo of the main pool. The BVG Residencial penthouse also had a nice private pool on the terrace, in addition of the hot tub. I am sure we wont be disappointed with Portofino. It only has 2 towers versus 6 in the case of Residencial BVG, so it should be less crowded. Also, I remember the developer was advertising Portofino as a more upscale development than Residencial BVG.

Wait a minute my Northern Friend.....you owe me lunch at Hooters as you agreed that if the Canadian Dollar ever reached $1.00 or $1.10 US Dollar, then you would buy. I think the bet was based upon a strike zone, not on what the dollar was worth at the time of your visit.

I think I would like to visit that hot tub in Cancun and will get ready for the lottery.

It was just a comment on the previous thread that Canadians have had some murder problems in Mexico and because HCC has very few Canadian members, the other members won't have to compete with the Canucks to get into Cancun HCC.

Further: As Canada's population is roughly 10% of the US population (about the size of California before the US economy problems), never before has there been such an opportunity to 'sell' DC's to Canada - the dollar is close to par and the economy OK. The only one with over 10% is ER apparently.

Thx Bill --- I now remember the deal. You might have to remind me again in Feb -- I'm a Scot.
