Default High Country Club member guide to Breckenridge

Here is the High Country Club membership guide to one of their trophy homes - Breckenridge Mountain Lodge, Colorado. This is a 4,800 square foot home with 4 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms.

I have not yet visited this property, but hope to visit soon.

Regarding HCC's property guides, they do have a nice look to them on the surface, but the Breckenridge guide at least seems to be thrown together in a sloppy and careless manner.

For example:

Restaurants:
- It's Modis, not Mondis.
- Horseshoe II has been closed for some time
- So has Pierre's
- So has the St. Bernard

The Peak 8 fun park (which includes tha Alpine Superslide described on the 1st page) is not open this summer.

p. 10 - Copper and Keystone are 1 hr. to 45 minutes away??? They're both more like 30 min. (Vail's only about 45 minutes away.)

"Historic Breckenridge" - duplicate paragraph on pages 11 & 12

And they didn't even list the Starbucks!!!

etc.

It looks like they basically copied some names/numbers out of the phone book, but it doesn't appear that they spent much time determining which shops/restaurants are actually good, checking to see if places were even open any more, providing "local knowledge" or even proofreading.

That is a good suggestion (for all Destination Club guides) as I find myself, more often than not, looking for the closest Starbucks on my many travels.

We are heading out mid-August (4 adults, 4 children ages 10, 10, 8, 8) - HCC has indicated that the Lodge will no longer be utilized but is not sure if we will be in the property recently utilized during the 14 person fiasco. My wife and I are fully confident - especially based on the recent scramble and favorable outcome - that regardless of where we end up things will be great.

That aside, looking for the guidance of those with summer experience in that area for a few recommendations:

Horseback Riding
Rafting Trip (1/2 day)
Bike rental/ride/tour (the 35 miles from Vail may be a bit much)
Spa "gem"

We went to Good Times this winter when we were at Keystone and did the dog sledding - HIGHLY recommended as our then 9 and 7 yr olds LOVED it.

Thanks

I'd certainly recomemnd the bike rides as most of the shops will come and pick you up. Last summer we had a shop take us to the top of Vail pass and we rode down to Frisco where the bike shop picked us up later. Virtually all downhill and scenic. We stopped in Copper to check out the unit there and then had icecream in Frisco when we rolled in. Hung out by the marina for awhile and then were picked up...worked like a champ and was not too taxing at all.

Horseback riding can be had on peak 9 of the ski area. Drive up to the base and then follow signs up a dirt road that takes you up the ski run. They have a parking area by the stables.

There are many beautiful hikes around the area as well. My personal favorite is Mohawk Lake. Summit County - Hiking Trails in Colorado

Hope that doesn't mean you've owned the stock for long.

Truth be told, I am not a coffee drinker, but my wife is addicted.

This goes to the point of having a PERSONAL concierge at High Country Club (and other DCs) that knows you're personal preferences.

EVERY time I make a reservation on the HCC system, I automatically get personalized information from my concierge. She has determined the information that I need from my previous requests but mostly from my post-trip comments and from a property review that I once sent her.

Here's the personalized TravelGuy list of concierge info that I receive:
1. STARBUCKS locations closest to the property (at least two so I have a selection in case once doesn't brew Komodo Dragon)!
2. Chinese restaurant with delivery for the arrival night.
3. Sushi restaurant (at least three options with ratings from the local concierge).
4. Gym (must have free weights, preferably a muscle-head type establishment).
5. Grocery store (where the locals shop).

This is in addition to the slew of standard information that I assume everyone gets:
Restaurant recommendations from other HCC members.
Directions to the property.
All types of events during the week.
Equipment rental info (bikes, skis, scuba, etc.)
Spa recommendations.
Etc. etc., etc.

Of course, she offers to arrange anything for us like grocery stocking, private chefs, tours guides, etc.

Back to Starbucks - As an example of the service I receive, I'm going to the High Country Club OBX property soon and here's one of four unsolicited e-mails I received from Chris (VP of member services at HCC and my concierge):

Hi Doug,

I checked and unfortunately there is not a Starbucks super close to Outer Banks for your July trip!! Sorry!!

Here is the nearest one:

Kitty Hawk Starbucks
5597-A North Croatan Highway
Kitty Hawk, NC 27949
252-255-0790
17 Miles away

There are some coffee places not too far away though. Here are their details:

Outer Banks Coffee Company
252-453-0200
807 Ocean Trl, #L, Corolla, NC 27927
4 Miles

Maui Wowi Hawaiian Coffees and Smoothies
252-457-0222
603 Currituck Clubhouse Dr, Ste D, Corolla, NC
Franchise - Coffees, Smoothies & Hawaiian Products - Maui Wowi
5.5 Miles

Let me know if you have any additional questions.
Have a good week!

Chris

Looks like I'll have to take an extra sack of StarBeans for some home made Bucks Brew on this trip!

Hi Doug,

I have also received similar wonderful responses to my requests from Chris and from Kristy. They always know that we want to know where the closest Pool, Tennis Courts, Wine Shop, amd gourmet deli (if possible) are, and they are most often correct in locating them.

I too would commend the HCC staff for their diligence!

They provide member reviews of local providers? That's rather interesting and likely quite helpful if enough information is provided.
