Question Question about ER: Do enclaves work?

I've been to an ER presentation and one of the things that struck me was their development of multiple units in a single building or complex. They made it into a virtue, and it probably improves their management economics. Some members were very positive about meeting other members, parties, etc.

We're sort of a private family and like to get involved in the local scene and meet people who live in the places we go. Does ER's enclave approach work against that? At one point I had the feeling that with multiple units in a single location that we would primarily meet other members who looked very much like ourselves?

Any ideas or impressions on this subject would be welcome.

welcome to the forum Seajim.

well, in terms of the actual private enclaves, i personally look at it more like hotels with multiple "wings" etc. (like wynn las vegas & tower suites)

the DC developments so far (quintess has 2 upcoming as well) have not been isolated compounds. even the members-only resort ER has in costa rica is a reasonable size, and is very close to the four seasons IIRC.

i heard some appeal though to these arrangements at UE's Nevis complex of 9 homes. I think you have privacy if you like but there is some cost and social advantages to bundling. Too be honest, one of my wife's concern's re: joining a DC was the lack of social interaction with others at a resort for her and the kids (I am fine without it I suspect as I am trying to get away). I think these multiple unit DCs offer the opportunity for best of both worlds and of course more opportunity to get units at one location.

Welcome Seajim,
The economics of an Enclave are favorable for clubs for all the obvious reasons.
I also think a certain amount of comfort comes with knowing who your "neighbors" are.
A DC enclave will surround you with people like yourself, but I would be hard pressed to imagine any DC members thrusting themselves upon fellow members just because you were in an enclave. Perhaps a friendly wave or "Hello!"...that's about it, I would imagine.

Beyond that you would be able to socialize and "go native" as much as you like

Kage, if you look at the UE website, they show the homes in Nevis. There are homes at the Signature and Elite levels.

As for enclaves, our family has found it a bonus. You can have all the privacy you want if you wish, and you can also mingle with other members comparing experiences and travel. They are not all the same. They are from all parts of the country and often different parts of the world. We love meeting other members. We also like meeting local people also, so you ahve the chance to do both. We have also run into the problem of going to a single home and not meeting anyone, or none of the locals. Then you are lonely and wish you were in an enclave.
For example, if you were to rent a home in Costa Rica, you will probably not meet any locals because many of the locals do not own the large homes along the coast, they are usually vacation homes. So if you were to rent one, there is a chance you will not meet any of your neighbors. For ER, there are 20 other families to meet and compare notes with, and still explore the local region and customs.

i was wondering what kind of development the UE properties are in. i was not aware they were clustered together. the UE site says they are near the four seasons.

its the former T&H site which was rennovated/improved. The photos show how nice it is and it is a short walk from the 4 seasons. I have not yet been there but several friends have raved about the property, experience, and location.
