I would like to give the benefit of the doubt to the Portofino Destinations Club in terms of their non-working toll-free telephone number that was first reported on April 2nd.

I personally spoke with Ron Tapp, CEO yesterday about the toll free phone problem and I told him I viewed it as his current #1 problem and should be fixed ASAP.

I feel this way for several reasons:
1. It is displayed on the home page of their website
2. It is the lifeline of your potential new members
3. It is a toll-free call for members
4. It is easy to fix
5. It indicates the health of the organization

I called my own phone company and they said redirecting a toll-free telephone number can be done in a matter of hours, not days. Perhaps in Colorado, this is not the case.

Their alternative phone number is 303-790-9404 and is a voice mail system.

Their listed Fax number is 303-790-9414 --- but guess what --- it defaults to their voice message box and no fax carrier signal sound is given.

Problem #2 that needs to be fixed is their fax number. They can always sign up for as service like efax.com if there is a problem with their fax machine.

Therefore, I am JUDGING the severity of their restructuring plan 100% based only on their ability to fix their toll free telephone number and fax number. If they can't do this in a timely manner, then perhaps their problems are far worse than what I or anyone else is expecting.

Call me a cynic, but clearly Portofino has some bigger challenges ahead than dealing with the phone company. There seems to have been a lot of praise handed out to Portofino for coming clean about their restructuring, but can any potential destination club member overlook a lawsuit and the club's inability to pass a net asset test? A non working toll-free number strikes us at Halogen Guides as the least of their problems.

I fully agree with you, however, if they can't immediately fix such a simple problem as their toll free telephone number, then I will immediately put them on the "Destination Club Deathwatch Countdown" as they will have a zero chance of survival in my book.

Fixing their toll-free telephone number would represent a baby step in the right direction and demonstrate that they are trying to improve. If a club can't afford a few hundred dollar per month toll-free telephone number, then I would conclude - "All hope abandon ye who enter here."

Good news...sorta.

The Portofino Destinations Club toll-free phone number is now working....hooray!

However, their web site still displays an incorrect fax number. The correct fax (new) number is 720-279-2511.

Portofino Destinations Club still has some major obstacles to overcome, however, they took a small step in the right direction when they fixed their toll-free number.

I know that it may seem harsh that my metric for failure would be judged solely on fixing this problem, but I decided that if this couldn't be fixed, then nothing else they did would stand a chance of succeding. I am not saying that they are home free, but at least they are making strides to improve their current problems.
